2012 movie reviews

The movie 2012 was produced and displayed a fictional scene of the world coming to an end. However, what do the critics have to say. Dan Kois from the Washington Posted states the following: "If a film critic awards four stars to a movie directed by Roland Emmerich — Hollywood's reigning king of catastrophe, the critically scorned director of "Independence Day" and "Godzilla" — will the world come to an end? That's a question the ancient Mayans never asked, but it's the one facing me after the enormously satisfying, astonishingly accomplished, reprehensible-yet-irresistible "2012," the crowning achievement in Emmerich's long, profitable career as a destroyer of worlds." http://www.washingtonpost.com/gog/movies/2012,1158595.html

Elizabeth Weitzman had a different opinion. She claimed the movie had great special effects, yet she was not overwhelmed by the script. "The effects, it must be said, are awesome. And they'd better be, since they're the sole reason for the movie's existence. Granted, Cusack is enjoyable even when he's on autopilot, and Woody Harrelson has fun in his brief scenes as a prophetic madman. But everyone else sinks under the weight of inadvertently hilarious dialogue, and not one of the half-dozen threads makes actual sense. http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/movies/2009/11/13/2009-11-13_apocalypse_wow_doomsday_views_are_a_knockout_but_script_is_the_real_2012_disaste.html

I saw the movie a few weeks after it was released. I thought the special effects were great as well but agree with the New York critic Weitzman that the script was very boring. Not to mention two and a half hours for a catastrophe movie is pushing my limit for boredom in a movie theatre. If i had to give an overall rating for this movie i would probably give it 2 1/2 to 3 stars.
